Schemes for Assisting Research Scholars

A number of Schemes are available wherein researchers/ scholars are assisted for their works:

  1. 300 Raman Fellowships for Post Doctoral Research aim at providing young Indian scholars an opportunity to have international collaborative research opportunities, training in advanced techniques and technologies in emerging fields, thereby furthering their research capacity and ability to contribute to higher education with global perspective and forging long-term relationships with distinguished experts in these fields in USA. 126 Fellowships were awarded in the year 2013-14 and 144 Fellowships have been finalized for the year 2014-15.
  2. “Obama-Singh” 21st Century Knowledge Initiative (OSI) aims at the development and enrichment of junior faculty at Indian Institutions of Higher Learning. OSI enables Indian Higher Education Institutions to pursue objectives through exchange visit of faculty, administrators, post graduate Indian students and US graduate students who can demonstrate the ability to work independently. Under the scheme, 4 joint research proposals have been approved for the year 2013-14.
  3. Under the Travel Grant Scheme, financial assistance is provided to permanent teachers and Librarians of colleges and Vice Chancellors of State Universities, Deemed to be Universities and Central Universities, recognized under section 2(f) and 12(B) of UGC Act, to present research papers at International conferences.

Besides above, University Grants Commission (UGC) on behalf of the Government of India, has been implementing the related decisions of Bilateral Exchange Programmes in the field of Higher Education between India and foreign countries.

This was stated by the Union HRD Minister, Smt. Smriti Irani in a written reply to the Lok Sabha question today.
