Facilities to Visually Handicapped Persons in Schools

Under the Sarva Shiksha Abhiyan Braille and large print books are provided to the visually handicapped and blind children enrolled in primary and upper primary schools. In the year 2014-15, 19652 Braille books were provided and 35045 large print books were given.

An amount of 3000/- per annum per child is provided under Inclusive Education for Disabled at Secondary Stage under the Rashtriya Madhyamik Shiksha Abhiyan Programme, which can be utilised in a flexible manner, depending on the needs of each child.

Under the Right of Children to Free and Compulsory Education (RTE) Act, 2009, States and UTs have set up decentralised grievance redressal mechanisms, including the State Commission for Protection of Child Right (SCPCR) / Right to Education Protection Authority (REPA), to address complaints.
