The Government has initiated the consultation process of formulating a New Education Policy to meet the changing dynamics of the population’s requirement with regard to quality education, innovation and research, aiming to make India a knowledge superpower by equipping its students with the necessary skills and knowledge and to eliminate the shortage of manpower in science, technology, academics and industry. The online consultation process has been launched on www.MyGov.in portal and a large number of suggestions have been received on 33 identified themes, out of which, one theme of School Education is ‘New Knowledge, pedagogies and approaches for teaching of Science, Maths and Technology in School Education to improve learning outcomes of Students’. Other two themes of Higher Education are focused on ‘Promoting Research and Innovation’ and ‘New Knowledge’. Apart from that, the Rashtriya Aavishkar Abhiyan (RAA) envisages motivating and engaging children of the age group from 6-18 years in Science, Mathematics and Technology through observation, experimentation, inference drawing, model building, etc. both through inside and outside classroom activities and processes. It seeks to create curiosity, excitement and spirit of innovation and exploration amongst school children, by encouraging higher education institutions to assist secondary and elementary schools in the study of Science and Mathematics. Since education is in the concurrent list, State Governments are also expected to play their role for proper utilisation of manpower and natural resources of the country.
